Peter Philadelphia (22, black) no longer believes in the eternal and divine mission he and all his ancestors were called to carry out: the hunting down and slaying of ghost orphans. These ghost orphans inhabit human bodies, have enhanced metaphysical abilities, and most of them refuse to go down without a fight. Furthermore, another group of hunters called reapers, are also tracking and slaying ghost orphans. But while Peter and his comrades (collectively known as The Veil) are sending ghost orphans to a presumably peaceful afterlife, the reapers are intent on dragging the spirits to hell. This all plays out over a series of epic supernatural sword duels as The Veil clashes with the Reapers over the fate of the lost souls, and the ghost orphans clash with both in an effort to preserve their own mythical immortality.
